Indian conglomerate ITC has unveiled plans to establish a food park in Ludhiana district of the state of Punjab.

The announcement was made during a meeting between ITC chairman YC Deveshwar, executive director Kurush Grant and a state government team headed by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal held at the ITC Green Centre in Gurgaon.

Grant said that the proposed 30-acre food park would manufacture biscuits, juices and confectionery products.

Badal said that the government was making every effort to invite investment into the state.

"We have 600 acres of land available alongside the upcoming international airport and we are ready to give out parcels to leading companies in the quickest possible time to give a kick start to the IT industry in Punjab," he added.

He requested the Financial Commissioner Development Suresh Kumar to facilitate the project.

Kumar has also asked ITC to process flour from Punjab wheat, adding that the government will advise farmers to harvest the wheat variants required by the company.
