La Filipina Uy Gongco, a leading producer of flour, hog, and feeds in the Philippines, is investing PHP1.2bn ($29.36m) to foray into food processing.

The company plans to produce corned pork, luncheon meat and pasta for domestic and exports market, a move will make the company a leading integrated agro-industrial firm in the country.

La Filipina Uy Gongco chairman Alfonso Uy was quoted by the Manila Bulletin Publishing that the company has invested PHP1bn ($24.47m) to set up a pasta production plant and is establishing a PHP200m ($4.89m) cannery, which will produce corned pork and luncheon meat.

The pasta production plant, located in Manila Harbor Center, will be incorporated under the company's new business unit - Mama Tina Pasta. The plant has a production capacity of 140 tons of spaghetti and macaroni per day.

La Filipina Uy Gongco will be marketing the pasta products under the brands 'Amigo Segurado' and 'La Filipina'.

The new cannery, which will produce corned pork and luncheon meat, is being established located in Bulacan. Currently, the company's corned pork and luncheon meat are produced under the brand 'La Filipina' by a toll manufacturer.

The canner will maximize the capacity of the company's two hog farms - Amigo Agro Industrial Development and Excel Farms.
