Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has called for the acceleration of work in developing South Pars gas field before the start of 2015, a senior official said.

Ali-Akbar Shabanpour, managing-director of Pars Oil and Gas Company, said Zanganeh, who travelled to South Pars on Thursday, stressed the need for the development of the offshore section of Phase 12.

Shabanpour said Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) must have more than 1,200 active forces in the offshore sector of Phase 12 so that the onshore section of this phase will become operational afterwards.

He said that IOEC is also to increase manpower and installations in the five prioritized phases – 12, 15&16 and 17&18. Shabanpour said Iran Marine Industrial Company has been assigned the task of building satellite platforms for phases 17 and 18 as well as constructing a 28-kilometer-long pipeline connecting the main and satellite platforms in this phase.

“According to the latest estimates, the first train of refinery in this phase will start up in June next year.

The utilities in the refinery of phases 17 and 18 include electricity, steam, nitrogen and controlling units,” he said. The first train of the refinery in phases 15 and 16 of South Pars is currently producing six million cubic meters a day of gas, which is expected to soar to 10 mcm/d soon.

The second train is expected to come on-stream to supply gas in the winter.

Shabanpour said welding and installation of some equipment have yet to be done in the second train.

He said four wells have yet to be drilled in Phase 15 while the Phase 16 wells have been fully drilled.

“A derrick is being moved to Phase 15 for completion of wells,” he said.
